Claude Haiku 5.5 arrives, and GPT-6 comes to the Chat tab in ChatGPT

Week of October 5, 2026Prepared October 11, 20262 items

On October 7, Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5, a small, low-cost model for high-volume work, and lowered one Claude Sonnet 5.5 price for developers. The same day, OpenAI began bringing GPT-6 to the Chat tab in ChatGPT, with a new way of answering it calls Intelligent UI. Paid plans came first, and Free and Go plans followed the next day.

What to do this week

If your staff draft in ChatGPT, answers in the Chat tab may look different this week, sometimes with charts, buttons, or forms. Your review step does not change: every name, date, and number still gets checked before anything goes out. Haiku 5.5 matters mainly if someone builds software for you that sends AI many routine requests.

Anthropic releases Claude Haiku 5.5 for high-volume, low-cost work

What changed
Anthropic calls Claude Haiku 5.5 “the cheapest, fastest, and most capable small model we’ve ever released.” It is designed for high-volume, cost-sensitive tasks and is the first Haiku-class model with an adjustable effort setting. For requests up to 100,000 tokens, the developer list price is $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens, compared with $1 and $5 for Haiku 4.5; Anthropic estimates it costs around 75% less to run than Haiku 4.5 on average. In the same announcement, Anthropic lowered the Claude Sonnet 5.5 price for cache reads from $0.20 to $0.10 per million tokens.
Who can use it
Developers can use it on the Claude Platform as claude-haiku-5-5 and through Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Anthropic also announced a monthly API credit for subscribers: $100 for Max 5x, $200 for Max 20x, and up to $500 for Team.
For church offices
This matters if a volunteer or vendor builds a tool that sends AI many routine requests, such as sorting website messages into events, facilities, and volunteering. A small model can lower that cost. Keep pastoral and confidential messages out of any test.
For businesses
Anthropic points to live customer support and browser use as strong fits. A business could test it on sorting a sample of support emails, with personal details removed, and compare its labels with a staff member’s.
Try this: If you pay for API use, run one routine, high-volume task through Haiku 5.5 and your current model, and compare accuracy and cost per task before switching. Anthropic notes that Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 remain better choices for complex agentic coding.

GPT-6 comes to the Chat tab in ChatGPT, with interactive answers

What changed
OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 in the Chat tab of ChatGPT: GPT-6 Sol for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise, and GPT-6 Luna for Free and Go. The release adds Intelligent UI, which OpenAI says lets answers “include graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts, and interactive experiences you can use directly in your conversation.” OpenAI says the models powering ChatGPT Work and Codex are not changing in this release.
Who can use it
Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users first, starting October 7, then Free and Go users starting October 8. Enterprise availability depends on workplace admin settings.
For church offices
An administrator comparing room options for a fall event might now get a chart or a short form inside the answer. It is still a draft: confirm every detail against the church calendar before you share it.
For businesses
A manager comparing three vendor quotes may see a chart beside the written answer. Charts make differences easier to see, and every number still needs checking against the original quotes.
Try this: Send your team a two-line note: ChatGPT answers may now include charts, buttons, or forms, and facts and figures still need checking before anything is shared.
